Her sister, Primrose, has had a terrible nightmare that she was reaped for the 74th Annual Hunger Games, a fight to the death on live television. Katniss reasures her and sings her back to sleep. Katniss then leaves to go hunting with Gale and spots a deer, but Gale scares it away, saying that she will be spotted by the Peacekeepers (police) if she drags a deer into the town. He then helps her shoot down a bird instead. KAtniss then travels to the town's main trading area, the hob, and trades with an old woman nicknamed Greasy Sae (Helen Jackson). Sae then gives her a Mockingjay Pin and wishes her luck at the reaping later that day. In the Capitol, she meets Cinna, whom she instantly befriends. Katniss is then interviewed by Ceasar Flickerman (Rita Moore) and shows off the dress that Cinna made her. (The dress catches fire without hurting Katniss) Katniss then goes to training and receives a score of eleven, which is considered very high. Cinna congratulates her and sees her off.
